Zipper

I found this recipe on thespruceeats.com.

vodka, Chambord, 7up⁣

I couldn’t find any history on this drink, but I did find other cocktail recipes named Zipper.⁣

But, like yesterday’s post, the liqueur in this drink has a history. Chambord was inspired by raspberry liqueur made in the Loire Valley in the late 1600s, said to have been introduced to Louis XIV during one of his visits to the Château de Chambord. It was common during that time for liqueurs and cognac to be consumed with elegant meals. Chambord is made from red and black raspberries, Madagascar vanilla, Moroccan citrus peel, honey and cognac. ⁣

And the Château de Chambord! Gorgeous. It was built as a hunting lodge for Francis I in the early 1500s. Look it up if you get a chance, you won’t be disappointed.⁣

So, the Zipper. It is very yummy, but dang – SWEEEEET. A bit too sweet for me. I made a second one using soda instead of 7up, and that is more my jam. (ha, raspberry jam.) Using soda instead also lets more of the Chambord flavor through, and let’s you taste more than just raspberries. ⁣

I’m always frustrated with the fact that I don’t have a lot of good words for flavors. I’m not a foodie or a wine enthusiast (but I eat food and drink wine on the reg), so I’ve never learned the lexicon. But I sat with my soda Zipper, closed my eyes, and tried to put into words the flavors past raspberry. I got lemon peel and butter. It’s a start. ⁣
