Water Lily

gin, creme de violette, Cointreau, lemon juice (equal parts of each)

I found this recipe on stevethebartender.com.au.

This looks and tastes like an old cocktail, but it’s actually new, just from 2007. Sort of a cross between an Aviation (with Cointreau instead of maraschino liqueur) and a Corpse Reviver #2 (with creme de violette instead of Lillet Blanc). It’s rare to find a new cocktail recipe that is so simple.

So I made up one of these and I had a sip, then the phone rang and I finished it while gabbing away. I thought, I’d better mix up a second so I can focus on the taste and write about it. For the first one I used The Botanist gin, a new western style of gin. The second one (drinking it now) I used Citadelle, which is a French gin, and more like a London Dry style. I generally prefer the new western style…but in this cocktail, I’m really enjoying the Citadelle. There is a lot of flavor and tartness going on with the other ingredients, and the Citadelle gin brings out more gin flavor in the drink. It is delicious.
