Ward Eight

I found this recipe on liquor.com and in The Savoy Cocktail Book.

rye whiskey (I used Canadian whisky), lemon juice, orange juice, grenadine ⁣

I read about the origins of this drink and it’s all very confusing and debated. But the main gist of it is that it is named after an notoriously politically corrupt area of Boston, a city divided into 8 wards. Political corruption cocktail! How appropriate.⁣

I had never heard of this drink before, but I suppose that doesn’t mean much as I’m just learning about mixed drinks now with this project. But I’m kind of surprised this isn’t more popular. It’s really good, and it has simple ingredients that people are likely to have at home. Some versions of the recipe use American whiskey or bourbon instead of rye.⁣
