I found this recipe on diffordsguide.com.
gin, St-Germain, lemon juice, simple syrup
The drink is new, like since 2007, but it SCREAMS Prohibition-era. It tastes like one of those beautiful gin drinks that sprang from that time…a delicious combination of ingredients to mask the horrible taste of bathtub gin.
I’m new to cocktails, but I have already learned with this project that I love gin drinks from the 1920s. And my drinks are probably 1000 times better than they were back then, because I’m using great gin! (The Botanist for this drink.)
St-Germain is an elderflower liqueur that came about in 2007. I added it to my bar yesterday, thinking that there would be a good chance that I wouldn’t like it because I don’t like floral flavors like rose or lavender. They taste like soap to me. This is different. It doesn’t taste like old lady bath talc. It is unique and delicious.
And the lovely St-Germain bottle (look it up if you’re curious) only adds to the Prohibition-era fantasy I’m cooking up. It’s super art-deco-ey and strikingly beautiful.
All of this is to say – I think I have a new favorite drink. I made a second and cut back on the lemon juice just a tiny bit, and I’ve struck gold.
