I found this recipe on absolutdrinks.com.
grenadine, maraschino liqueur, green chartreuse
Drink fail. Posting anyway! Here is the story:
1. I got The Savoy Cocktail Book, originally published in 1930, and found this drink. Sounded like fun.
2. But green? On the Union Jack? That sounds more like the Welsh flag, or Italian flag, or tons of others – not the Union Jack.
3. It took me three tries to get it to layer. (First fail.)
4. After a couple of months of thinking that I had Green Chartreuse, I actually have Yellow Chartreuse. (Second fail.)
5. I need better grenadine. Rose’s isn’t layering well. (Third fail.)
So what we have here is the Flag of Austrian Low Countries, or the Flag of San Diego. Ha.
It tastes good, but very sweet. After taking the photo I put it into a glass with ice and it’s better cold. Not one I’ll put on my list to try again soon, but it was an adventure and I learned more about flags than I thought I would today.
