Union Jack

I found this recipe on absolutdrinks.com.

grenadine, maraschino liqueur, green chartreuse⁣

Drink fail. Posting anyway! Here is the story:⁣

1. I got The Savoy Cocktail Book, originally published in 1930, and found this drink. Sounded like fun.⁣
2. But green? On the Union Jack? That sounds more like the Welsh flag, or Italian flag, or tons of others – not the Union Jack.⁣
3. It took me three tries to get it to layer. (First fail.)⁣
4. After a couple of months of thinking that I had Green Chartreuse, I actually have Yellow Chartreuse. (Second fail.)⁣
5. I need better grenadine. Rose’s isn’t layering well. (Third fail.)⁣

So what we have here is the Flag of Austrian Low Countries, or the Flag of San Diego. Ha.⁣

It tastes good, but very sweet. After taking the photo I put it into a glass with ice and it’s better cold. Not one I’ll put on my list to try again soon, but it was an adventure and I learned more about flags than I thought I would today.⁣
