The Drinky-Drink Project is one year old today! 🎉
One year ago today, after never mixing a drink in my life, I decided I was going to learn. I did my research, got some advice, and bought:
Bombay Sapphire Dry Gin
Maker’s Mark Bourbon
Grand Marnier Orange Liqueur
Antica Vermouth 1786
Dolin Dry Vermouth
Angostura Bitters
I also found a recipe for simple syrup (so funny to think I needed a recipe for sugar water at the time) and made up a bottle of that.
My first drink on April 25, 2020 was a Tom Collins. And I liked it! In the post I said, “Pretty much sparkling lemonade and gin”.
Now one year later I’ve graduated bartending school and become a certified mixologist. My five-bottle bar is now a 60+ bottle bar (I just counted). I’ve had so much fun learning about the histories of the liquors and the cocktails, and finding my own likes and dislikes.
And I’m going to have to reconsider the name “Quarantine Drinky-Drink Project” because I’m only six days away from being fully vaccinated! I should be able to (gently) start joining the world again. I know mixing drinks for others and actually ordering a cocktail at a bar is on the list of things I’m really looking forward to.
Raising my Tom Collins to another year of drinky-drinks!
