The Corsican

I followed the recipe on yummly.com. Mostly. After drinking a little I added a shot of vodka to booze it up a bit. It’s better with a little vodka.

Lillet Blanc, St-Germain, limoncello, lemon juice, club soda, vodka

This cocktail uses many of my favorite bottles in one drink. Lillet Blanc is a fortified French wine, sweet with flavors of citrus. St-Germain is an elderflower liqueur that just makes everything better when it’s used in a drink. The limoncello I used is home made…I steeped lemon peels in vodka for four days, then added a sugar syrup. Each element is tasty on its own, and really nice together.

Also, Corsica is an island smack-dab between France and Italy. Google says, “It’s been part of France since 1768, but retains a distinct Italian culture.” The Corsican is a good name for this drink – Lillet and St-G are French, limoncello is very much Italian.

The recipe for this is interesting. It said to combine all of the ingredients except the club soda in a tightly sealed jar, and refrigerate for a few hours. I’m guessing that is so the drink is chilled without the dillution you get from shaking with ice? (Shaking with ice will dilute a cocktail about 25%.) So the only ice I used was in the empty glass to chill it. I let that sit while I worked on the lemon twist garnish, tossed the ice out and poured the mixture from the jar, then added the club soda.

Here I go again with the post-pandemic dreaming…I thought, it would be really nice to have these mixed up and chilling in the fridge for a party. Then when you want to serve one, it is ready to go! Just add soda. I think this would be a good crowd-pleaser. There is nothing challenging about this cocktail – it is just tasty, and not too sweet.
