Sloe Screw

I found this recipe on thespruceeats.com.

sloe gin, oj⁣

It’s totally like 80s Week, fer sure! I’m taking a break from learning about sensible classic cocktails and diving in to the world of bright colors, weird sexual names, and boozy milkshakes. ⁣

Sloe Screw is just one of many “sloe” cocktails from the 80s. It’s easy to see how this name came about – it’s a screwdriver with sloe gin. Got it. I would think it could have just as easily been named a Sloe Driver (see what I did there?), but that’s not how they were naming drinks back then.⁣

But the names get weirder and more sexual as ingredients are added. It seems to me that the other “sloe” drinks were created not because of the tasty cocktail they would make, but because of the name they could get from it. More examples:⁣

Sloe Comfortable Screw – Southern Comfort is added⁣
Sloe Comfortable Screw against the Wall – Galliano is added, which is an ingredient in Harvey Wallbangers⁣
Sloe Comfortable Screw Between the Sheets – rum and brandy are added, taking the name from the Between the Sheets cocktail⁣
Sloe Comfortable Fuzzy Screw against the Wall – COME ON. Peach schnapps is added. Because peaches are fuzzy.⁣

I didn’t really expect to like this, because I don’t love orange juice enough to drink a whole glass of it. But this tastes like fruit punch, and it’s really tasty! So far I’ve been enjoying this dive into 80s cocktails.⁣
