Canadian whisky 🇨🇦, ginger ale, lime twist
A couple of days ago I tried the Canadian Cocktail, and loved the drink and was delighted to discover Canadian whisky. But I learned that Canadians don’t actually drink Canadian Cocktails. 🤣 I heard from a few Canadians that popular drinks are Rye & Ginger and Bloody Caesar.
Rye & Ginger is what we might call a Highball here in the US – but it is a Canadian drink made with Canadian whisky. In my research, I learned that Canadian whisky is often a blend of mashes that include rye, but not always exclusively rye. Canadians call it “rye” anyway.
I know this sounds over-the-top, but I made my own ginger ale for this drink. Only because I had the ginger syrup in the fridge from the Ginger Rogers Cocktail I made last week. Homemade ginger ale is REALLY good, and it’s just ginger syrup, club soda, and a squeeze of lime.
Before this project, if you had asked me if it was possible to make a bright summer cooler using whiskey, I would have said, “No! Whiskey is for Harley guys and stressed-out detectives on British crime dramas. Not for cooling off on a hot day!”. I was wrong, obviously. Rye & Ginger is super refreshing and tasty.
