I followed the recipe on liquor.com.
scotch, sweet vermouth, Angostura bitters, cherries
Another old classic that I can’t believe I haven’t tried yet. No – I take that back. I CAN believe I haven’t tried it yet, because I spent months avoiding cocktails with vermouth because I didn’t think I liked it. As I’ve said before – my vermouth had just gone bad. Bad vermouth is really, really terrible and will ruin a cocktail.
This drink is lovely! It’s really just a Manhattan with scotch instead of bourbon or rye. I haven’t had a chance to try many scotches yet (still quarantined alone, only half-vaxxed), but from what I read there is a big difference between sipping scotches and mixing scotches. Mixing scotches are smoother and less peaty – I’m using @monkeyshoulder. This recipe is a delicious classic – first appearing in print in 1894.
