Peruvian Elder Sour

I followed the recipe on Cocktails Wiki.

pisco, St-Germain, lime juice

Before we get into the cocktail, let’s workshop the name. It is “Peruvian” because of the pisco, which is a brandy made in Peru and Chile. “Elder” because St-G is an elderflower liqueur. And the “Sour” is because this is a riff on a basic sour cocktail.

Isn’t “Sour Peruvian Elder” much better? Doesn’t that give you the image of a curmudgeon in Lima? So crabby that they deserve a cocktail created for their sourness? 🦙

Now to the drink itself. I have to preface this by saying that I love pisco and am excited to try any cocktail using it. It is a brandy, but it is bright and fresh, the same way tequila is.

Something magical happens with pisco + St-G. The two flavors really, really work together. A Pisco Sour is traditionally made with an egg white for a pretty foam and velvety mouth feel…but I always feel the same “velvet” with St-G. And we get more flavor from the St-G than we do with simple syrup. The bright freshness of the pisco is happy to live in a glass with the radiant floral notes of the St-G.

Hmm…dare I say it? I think this riff is an improvement on the Pisco Sour.
