I found this recipe in The Savoy Cocktail Book and on liquor.com.
gin, Cointreau, lime juice, bitters, orange bitters
Whenever I say that I found a recipe in The Savoy Cocktail Book, please always think “old drink”. The book was published in 1930. I sort of mashed together my recipes because The Savoy and liquor.com both call for orange curaçao, and my only orange curaçao is BLUE. But TheSpruceEats.com says you can use curaçao, triple sec, or Cointreau – I went with Cointreau.
This drink is called gin’s answer to a margarita or daiquiri – I get that. It’s mostly an orangey gin sour. I made it, I tasted it, I said, “Ho hum. Had this before.” But then it started growing on me. The orange flavor of Cointreau sings on your tongue long after you’ve swallowed. I took a few sips then went outside to play frisbee with my Whippet girl, and I kept licking my lips because THE ORANGE. It’s not like a daiquiri, it’s the gin version of a Cadillac marg. I say make it a double and throw some ice in that glass for the full margarita experience!
