Milk Punch

I followed the recipe on liquor.com, but I used Canadian whisky instead of bourbon.⁣

bourbon, milk, simple syrup, vanilla, sprinkle of nutmeg⁣

This is maybe the only drink in the project I knew I wanted to try, but haven’t been excited to try. It’s an old-fashioned drink, with the first printed recipes appearing in the 1600s. I knew it was important for my cocktail knowledge, but looking at the recipe, it’s just too weird.⁣

In New Orleans, milk punches are consumed as morning-after “hair of the dog” cocktails, as nightcaps, or with brunch. It sounds like different bars and restaurants in The Crescent City have their own take on milk punch, and take a lot of pride in their recipes.⁣

I was wrong to be hesitant to try this! It is lovely! Yes, it was totally weird pouring three ounces of MILK into my jigger. But the end result isn’t weird. It is sweet and creamy and boozy. Sort of like egg nog without the egg, and far less thick. It’s really tasty.⁣
