Midori Martini

*not actually a martini

Midori, vodka, lemon juice – equal parts

I was looking for a cocktail with Midori so I could try that again, and I came across this recipe. It tastes like a lemon drop with some melon sweetness, it’s pretty good.

Midori is an interesting liqueur. It originates in Japan, and the word “midori” means “green” in Japanese. The flavor is muskmelon, and I learned something new today. Cantaloupes are a type of muskmelon. So all cantaloupes are muskmelons, but not all muskmelons are cantalopes.

I think the most popular Midori cocktail is a Japanese Slipper, but it calls for a honeydew melon garnish…so I just put that on my shopping list. Midori is an interesting liqueur. Far too sweet to drink straight, but it adds such nice color and flavor.

And yes – this glass is actually a caviar bowl. It did a great job of keeping my drink chilled.
