I found this recipe on liquor.com.
gin, sweet vermouth, maraschino liqueur, bitters, orange twist
What a surprise, we have two dudes fighting over who invented this drink. 🙄 One guy says he made it for a guy traveling to Martinez, California. The city of Martinez claims that a local bartender invented it and named it after the city. Regardless, it has been around since the late 1800s. Several sources I read call it the “Father” of the Martini. 🍸
I’ve been trying to focus on summer coolers right now (currently 106 degrees in Austin), and the Martinez isn’t that. It’s very good, with intense flavors of sweetness – coming from both the vermouth and maraschino liqueur. This cocktail feels like it should be enjoyed in a leather chair, in a den filled with bookshelves, while a storm rages outside. I’ll try this one again when it isn’t blazing hot in Texas. ☀️
