Maiden’s Blush No. 2

absinthe, gin, grenadine

I found this recipe in The Savoy Cocktail Book, it is also available on cocktailsdistilled.com.

The garnish there is wormwood, how about that for an absinthe cocktail? 🧚‍♂️ I bought a wormwood plant today, as well as some other herbs and plants with edible flowers and fruits. I’m so excited!

I lost almost everything in my garden during the Texas ice storm a few months ago. My patio has been a depressing place, full of plants barely hanging on and empty pots. I’ve been telling myself not to be sad for the plants I’ve lost, but to be happy for the changes I can make – I can tailor my garden to be a cocktail garden now!

Today, at a neighbor’s advice, I visited a new plant store @cultivate_holistic_supply – they specialize in edible and medicinal plants, and herbal wellness. I was the only customer at the time (it was raining), and I had a nice conversation with the gals working there. I found out that they are both herbalists – and the more we talked, it became clear that my take on making cocktails is very much like their herbalist work! We all make our own infusions and syrups, their focus is medicinal, mine is flavor. We all use organic ingredients. We walked through the plants and they encouraged me to pluck leaves for taste, while they explained the medicinal properties. It was SO MUCH FUN!

Now I really want to learn more about herbs, and I’d love to do a cocktail collaboration with an herbalist. Maybe I can mix up a drink that tastes amazing AND boosts your immune system? I love it.
