I found this recipe on thespruceeats.com.
vodka, cranberry juice, orange juice
When I was deciding on today’s drink, I saw this on my list and throught, that sounds refreshing! Then I started mixing it up and realized that it’s really just a Sea Breeze with oj instead of grapefruit juice. But that’s the way it goes with cocktails.
The Madras is part of the cranberry juice cocktails invented and popularized by Ocean Spray in 1945 to sell more cran juice. It was a good marketing campaign…the drinks are winners, and we’re still drinking them 75 years later!
It is nice, and refreshing, and much like a Sea Breeze. But I find that the oj takes over the other flavors more than grapefruit juice does, so I’m going to cut back on it next time.
Also, a note – I’m seeing a trend in the drinks I’m making. It seems the smaller the glass, the more booze in the drink. Really! A little martini or coupe is for drinks that use 2-3 oz of liquor, and a big glass like this frequently holds drinks that only take 1.5 oz. Like this one. Interesting.
