Lemon Drop

I found this recipe on liquor.com.

vodka, triple sec, lemon juice, simple syrup

Not an old drink – invented in the 1970s buy a guy in San Francisco who owned a “fern bar”. As you can imagine, I had to go down the fern bar rabbit hole. ⁣

In the 70s, bars started popping up that were designed to be attractive to single women. What do women want? They want Tiffany lamps and plants. 🤨 TGI Fridays is a chain of fern bars.⁣

So, the Lemon Drop. Not a martini, as you might think if you do a google search. It’s vodka, triple sec, simple syrup, and lemon juice. It reminds one of lemon drop candies, right down to the texture of the sugared rim.⁣

I knew nothing about mixed drinks when I started this project, but I’m learning as I go, and discovering my tastes. One thing I’ve learned already – vodka doesn’t taste like much. It depends entirely on what you mix it with. I see that it is important in the world of cocktails, but I’m finding that I prefer a booze that can actually be tasted in the drink. The Lemon Drop would taste about the same if you left the vodka out.⁣
