I found this recipe on nytimes.com.
gin, lime juice, fresh basil, simple syrup
Yes, I made up this name, but the cocktail is just a basil gimlet. I was looking at my tired basil plant today thinking that I’d better get a move on if I wanted to use basil in a mixed drink. Then I thought, my whole garden only has a few weeks left, I want the garnish to represent my 2020 garden.
In the garnish: basil, thyme, cape plumbago (the blue flowers), bougainvillea (the pink flowers). I think that’s all I have in there.
No history today, because I’ve already written about the history of the Gimlet (see Cucumber Gimlet early on in the project).
The drink is lovely – the muddled flavor of basil really shines!
