Irish Gold

I found this recipe on thespruceeats.com.

Irish whisky, peach schnapps, orange juice, ginger ale

I cracked open my first bottle of Irish whisky for this cocktail. Naturally, because I’m quarantined alone during a pandemic and not sharing with anyone, I took a sippy-taste straight from the bottle. Irish whiskey is so nice! It is kind of sweet and happy. And it leaves my mouth and throat feeling cool like I ate a Mentos or ran in the snow.

And what a yummy cocktail to get to know Irish whisky better. I learned something important with this drink – peach schnapps is actually pretty good IN TINY AMOUNTS. This drink only calls for a half-ounce, a little tiny bit. A little goes a long way. It added flavor and sweetness without making me grimace and yell “SWEEEEET!”, which is honestly what I do when a drink is too sweet.

I know someone will ask – I started with a bottle of Jameson. I know that is Catholic whisky, because I watched The Wire on HBO. I’m open to suggestions for my next bottle, but I would happily buy another bottle of Jameson when this runs out!
