Gin Genie

I followed the recipe on foodandwine.com.

gin, sloe gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, mint leaves

Do you see the name of this cocktail and get a song in your head? It is indeed named after Bowie’s “The Jean Genie”. This recipe won Drinks International’s 2001 Cocktail Challenge, and was created by Wayne Collins. It’s pretty cool to be a cocktail guy and have “Collins” for your last name, IMHO.

Pretty much a gin sour with sloe gin on top, served long over ice. Tasty, but a little too sweet for me. Next time I’ll probably leave out the simple syrup, the sloe gin is enough sweetness for me.

I went looking for a iced cocktail because it’s 80 degrees (26C) in Austin today. I saw someone say that it’s like Mother Nature is gaslighting us after the brutal winter storm. (What winter storm? Aren’t ya’ll in shorts and flipflops today? There were never sub-freezing temps in Texas, I don’t know what you’re talking about.)
