French 75

I found this recipe on liquor.com.

gin, sparkling wine, lemon juice, simple syrup

This cocktail is about 100 years old, and is believed to be named after a French gun. It was first called “Soixante-Quinze”, (seventy-five), and was named after the 75mm gun because of the drink’s potency – think “knock you flat”. ⁣

The modern version of the drink is gin, sparkling wine, lemon juice, and simple syrup. From what I read, it is often consumed the way mimosas are, like a brunch drink.⁣

From Wikipedia: The French 75 was popularized in America at the Stork Club in New York. It appears in the movie Casablanca (1942) and is referenced twice in the John Wayne films A Man Betrayed (1941) and Jet Pilot (1957). ⁣

I think the “knock you flat” part of this drink is because of how easily it goes down. It’s very tasty, and probably easy to drink a few in quick succession. Five stars from me! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⁣
