I found this recipe on mrbostondrinks.com.
gin, sloe gin, grenadine, orange peel twist
In The Savoy Cocktail book, published in 1930, the directions say to “put enough grenadine in a cocktail glass to cover a ripe olive”. There is no olive in the recipe! 🤣 Just enough grenadine to cover an imaginary olive. The recipes in this book are pretty funny.
Sloe gin! I need to find more recipes that use it, because it is amazing. It tastes like berries and is a little bit sweet, but it does not overwhelm a drink with sweetness. This drink is really simple, and really good.
If you look closely, you’ll see that this is a layered drink – grenadine on the bottom and the shaken combination of gin and sloe gin on top. I have more success with layering when the colors are so close! It’s less layering, and more ombré.
