Delilah

I found this recipe on thespruceeats.com.

gin, Cointreau, lemon juice⁣

This drink is also called White Lady, but I think it’s a good idea to go ahead and leave the color of the lady out of it, and call it by her name, Delilah. I’m also seeing some evidence that egg white is added to make a White Lady, making them different drinks, but that isn’t consistent across all of the recipes.⁣

This drink was first concocted early in the last century, and like many drinks, two bartender guys both argue that they invented it. COME ON. I’m so tired of these dudes. It’s not like they composed a song or wrote a book. A drink this simple, with only three ingredients, was likely “invented” by hundreds of people who just decided it wasn’t necessary to plant a flag and claim it as their own.⁣

More interestingly, this was a favorite of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy of Laurel and Hardy fame.⁣

Me? I already knew I’d love this, because I love all 100 year old gin drinks. While I’m sipping it now, and it is over 100 degrees here in Austin, I think this combo would be good with soda over ice, too. Last note – simple syrup + a hair dryer makes a sticky, edible glue. ⁣😉
