Colony

I found this recipe on diffordsguide.com.

gin, pink grapefruit juice, maraschino liqueur⁣

This drink is so Prohibition-era that it’s actually NAMED after an illegal speakeasy. At New York’s Colony speakeasy the bartenders kept the booze in an elevator, so they could send it up to the attic or down to the basement if federal agents arrived.⁣

Where there’s a will, right?⁣

I hope I never run out of 100 year-old gin drinks to try. Unlike at the speakeasy, gin is legal in my house, so the gin is better than bathtub gin. And I don’t have to hide it in the attic in anticipation of a federal raid, either. ⁣

I don’t think I’ve had grapefruit juice with maraschino liqueur before (have I?). They are great together! The grapefruit juice gives a little bitterness, and the maraschino liqueur doesn’t obliterate the bitter flavor with overwhelming sweetness. Just a touch of sweet. Delicious.⁣
