Booch and Hooch

tequila, Cointreau, peach kombucha, lime juice

I sort of found this recipe on loveleafco.com, they called it a Kombucha Margarita. But I cut the lime juice in half, and added way less ‘booch.

I’ve been wanting to make a cocktail with kombucha for a while, but I kind of got out of the habit of buying kombucha regularly. When it came up on my farmer’s market delivery website this week, I decided to add peach ‘booch to cart.

If you’re new to kombucha, the Google dictionary describes it as “a drink produced by fermenting sweet tea with a culture of yeast and bacteria”. I’ll tell you what it really is – it is a delicious pro-biotic drink with a little (natural) fizz. And because it’s fermented, it is a tiny bit alcoholic. Not so much that you need to show ID when you buy it, but enough to feel it on an empty stomach. And speaking of tummies, it is good for your gut.

If you look for kombucha cocktails online, they are mostly all cop-outs, IMO. BECAUSE VODKA TASTES LIKE NOTHING, YOU CAN ADD IT TO ANYTHING. For christ’s sake. You can add vodka to any bottled, fruity drink, it doesn’t make it an original cocktail worthy of a web page with too much text about the first time you tasted kombucha on vacation in San Diego. /rant This recipe went out on a limb a little bit by using tequila. I knew the fresh taste of the tequila would be good with a fruity kombucha.

It is. It is a tasty summer cooler. Easy to mix, too…I did all of the careful measuring, but I’m thinking if you just add some tequila to any kombucha flavor, in the glass – no shaking, you’ve got a cocktail. Just don’t write a lengthy web page about it.
