Bloody Mary

I found this recipe on liquor.com.

vodka, tomato juice, horseradish, Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce, celery salt, black pepper, paprika, lime wedge, green olives, celery stalk

The origins of this drink are mostly boring…two different guys take credit for it in the 1920s. One guy says he invented it, but he only invented vodka and tomato juice. The other guy thinks the drink is his because he added all of the other stuff. Whatever.⁣

But everyone pretty much agrees that the drink was named after Mary Tudor, Queen of England, daughter of King Henry VIII. “Bloody Mary” was her nickname due to her habit of burning heretic protestants at the stake. She burned over 300 religious dissenters during her reign.⁣

This is the first drink I’ve made that got the dogs interested, since I’ve got some meat and cheese in there. The recipe I used calls for vodka, tomato juice, fresh lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, tobasco, horseradish, celery salt, and salt and pepper. The last line of the recipe says “Garnish with a lemon wedge, celery rib, pickled green bean or whatever else you have in the fridge.” ⁣

Tip of the hat to @my_bloody_quarantine , an account that is posting a new Bloody Mary every day. They are totally entertaining photos, and getting more and more outrageous. ⁣
