Blood and Sand

I found this recipe on liquor.com.

Scotch, cherry liqueur, sweet vermouth, oj

Yesterday I decided to take my journey of learning about cocktails to the next level, and I signed up for (online) bartending school. I love it! I’m learning all about distilling and fermentation and histories, as well as the different spirits and mixing drinks. I have no intention of ever becoming a bartender, this is just a way for me to learn more.

Here’s the crazy thing…I can now tell you all about the size of the stills in Scotland in the 14th century, but I could not tell you what it’s like to stand behind a bar and serve a drink. I’ve never even worked in food service, unless you count my job at Dairy Queen when I was 16. So I’ll graduate bartending school with a lot of book knowledge, but no practical knowledge of the industry. Which is actually fine by me.

So, Blood and Sand. This was on my class list of 25 must-know classic cocktails. There are a few on that list that I haven’t tried yet, so I’ll make my way through ’em. This one is a sweet drink that is very herby and fruity. It’s very tasty, but oh – I don’t like photographing drinks that are an ugly color. Also, my garnish is a little kawaii for such a serious, classic cocktail. 😁
