Americano

I found this recipe on liquor.com.

Campari, sweet vermouth, soda water⁣

This drink was first served in Milan, Italy in the 1860s. Back then it was called “Milano-Torino”, but was renamed “Americano” because of it’s popularity among American tourists. It is also considered the “father” of the Negroni cocktail.⁣

The Americano is an apertif…which sent me down a rabbit hole of learning about apertifs and digestifs. Apertifs are to stimulate the appetite before a meal, and digestifs help with digestion after the meal. I think I kind of knew that somewhere in my brain already, but I’m glad to know it for sure now.⁣

Because it’s the 4th of July and because I’m on a two-week break from work, I had this apertif before lunch. It felt very decadent, drinking a cocktail in the early afternoon in cut crystal. (Even though my lunch was the rest of the orange and potato chips with Lipton Onion Soup Mix dip.) Now it’s nap time!⁣
