Amaretto Sour

I found this recipe on liquor.com.

Amaretto, bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, egg white

It’s totally like 80s Week, fer sure! I’m taking a break from learning about sensible classic cocktails and diving in to the world of bright colors, weird sexual names, and boozy milkshakes.

Okay, I remember this one. Amaretto Sours were still popular once I was old enough to drink in the 90s. I have always stuck to wine and beer myself (hence, the whole reason for starting this project) but I remember tasting this drink when friends ordered it. And I can GUARANTEE you that I never had one made like this.

Dance Club Amaretto Sours are Amaretto and sour mix – a bottled mixture of water, corn syrup, and citrus acid. Plus a bunch of other chemical ingredients and artificial colors. The Amaretto Sour I’m enjoying right now was made with fresh ingredients, and it can’t even be compared to the lip-puckering Amaretto Sours of my past. I remember having a sip and feeling like it was hanging in my throat, making me want to spit.

This drink needs to lose it’s bad rep! With quality ingredients, it’s a really tasty cocktail. And shaking that fresh, organic, cage-free egg white to a froth is a good arm workout. 💪
